Recording
What can Zoomingscreen record?
The Chrome extension records a browser tab, and zooms in on every click inside it. The desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux records a whole screen or a single window, and on a whole screen it follows your clicks in every app.
Does it record sound?
Tab recordings include the tab’s sound, and you keep hearing it while you record. You can add your microphone too, Chrome asks once. The desktop app on Windows can include your computer’s sound.
Why does auto zoom only follow clicks in some recordings?
Zoomingscreen sees clicks inside the web page it records, and in the desktop app on a whole screen. A single window recording has no click data, so you add zooms by hand with one key.
What does not show up in recordings?
A few things Chrome draws outside the page: date and color pickers, Chrome’s autofill suggestions, alert boxes and right click menus. Dropdown lists do show, Zoomingscreen opens them inside the page while you record.
What if my browser closes while I record?
Recordings are saved every second while you record. Open the Zoomingscreen library afterwards and recover the unfinished recording.
Editing and export
Can I cut out parts of a recording?
Yes. Trim the start and end, split the recording at any moment with the S key, and delete the parts you do not want. Deleted parts can be brought back at any time, nothing is lost.
Can I add music?
Yes. Pick one of the tracks that come with Zoomingscreen, or add a music file of your own. The music loops under the video and fades out at the end, with separate volume for the music and your recording.
Can I use the included music in commercial videos?
Yes. Every track that comes with Zoomingscreen is released as CC0, a public domain dedication, so it can go in any video, including commercial ones, with no credit needed.
Can I export just the video, without a background?
Yes. Choose no background and the video is exported on its own, at its own shape, edge to edge. Or pick a color, a soft blend or your own image, and a shape such as 16:9, 9:16 or square.
Which formats can I export?
MP4 and WebM at up to 60 frames a second, and GIF for short loops. Free exports go up to 1080p, Pro exports up to 4K. Exports use your computer’s own video hardware.
Privacy
Where are my recordings kept?
On your computer only, in Chrome’s own storage or the desktop app’s. They are never uploaded to us. The Zoomingscreen library shows how much space they use, and you can delete any recording there.
Does Zoomingscreen track what I do?
No. There is no analytics and no tracking in the extension or the app, and it never reads what you type. It only talks to our server to check a Pro license, about once a day.
Plans and keys
Is there a free plan?
Yes, and every feature works on it. Free exports carry a small Zoomingscreen mark and go up to 1080p. Pro removes the mark and unlocks 1440p and 4K.
Can I use my key on more than one computer?
Your key works on one computer, the first one you activate it on. If you get a new computer, move your key from your account page, once a month.
What happens if I stop paying for Pro?
Zoomingscreen keeps working on the free plan. Your recordings stay exactly as they were, and new exports carry the small mark again. Pay again any time and the same key works.
How do payments and refunds work?
Payments are handled by Polar, our merchant of record, who also take care of sales tax and invoices. Prices, taxes and the refund policy are shown at checkout.
