What to look for

Before comparing names, decide what your demos need.

  • Automatic zoom on clicks, so viewers see what you press without hours of editing
  • The systems you use: Mac, Windows, Linux, or only the browser
  • Where videos live: files on your computer, or a cloud with share links
  • Price: a subscription, a one time license, or free
  • Export quality: 1080p at least, 4K if you zoom a lot

1. Screen Studio: the polished Mac pick

Screen Studio made automatic zoom on clicks popular. It runs on macOS only, with a smooth cursor, backgrounds and exports up to 4K at 60 fps. It is a subscription: $29 a month, or $9 a month billed yearly, with no free plan. Best for Mac users who want a native Mac app.

2. Zoomingscreen: auto zoom on any system, and in Chrome

Zoomingscreen, the tool this site is about, zooms on every click while you record and follows your typing. It runs as a Chrome extension and as a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and keeps recordings on your computer. Recording and editing are free, a free account gives 2 days of exports, then $14.99 a month or $49.99 once. Best for teams on mixed systems and for web app demos.

3. FocuSee: auto zoom on Windows and Mac

FocuSee adds zooms that follow your clicks on Windows and macOS, with exports up to 4K at 60 fps. Standard is $19.99 a month or $49.99 a year, and a lifetime plan is $199.99. The trial exports one video. Best for Windows users who want a mature desktop app.

4. Cursorful: free auto zoom in the browser

Cursorful is a Chrome, Edge and Brave extension that zooms when you click two or more times within 3 seconds. Its free plan has no watermark and needs no account, for non commercial use. Pro is $79 once per seat and adds commercial use, 4K and desktop apps for macOS and Windows. Best for personal browser recordings.

5. Canvid: auto zoom with AI touches

Canvid zooms on every click on Windows and Mac, and adds AI voice cleanup and captions. There is no free plan; Pro is $7 a month billed yearly and a Desktop License is $75 once. It needs an internet connection to sign in and run. Best if you want AI voice cleanup.

6. Cap: open source, with share links

Cap is open source, runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and can make Loom style share links or polished local recordings with zooms generated from your clicks. It is free for personal use; a Desktop License is $58 once. Best if you want open source and share links.

7. Loom: quick video messages

Loom does not zoom on clicks, but it is the easiest way to send a quick screen and camera message as a link, with comments and view counts. The free Starter plan allows 25 videos of 5 minutes each. Best for async messages, not polished demos.
